I currently live in Barton-under-Needwood and paint from my studio at ‘Ridware Arts’, Hamstall Ridware. In 1985 I received a first class honours degree in Fine Art from De Montfort University. In April 2011 I was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (RI). Elected to the RI Council in 2014, in April I 2016 founded 'fRIends of the RI' and in 2017 was elected Friends Secretary.
In 2016 I was elected an associate member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists, (ARSMA) and in October 2018 elected to full membership, (RSMA).
Painting from the gallery and adjoining studios, my work is landscape based with an emphasis on painting water. My approach embraces both representational and abstract elements and I push the character of the paint to extremes. I work mainly in watercolour, but I also enjoy carborundum collagraph printmaking and occasionally working in oils. Elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, I teach classes and workshops in a variety of media and exhibit widely across the country. I exhibit regularly with the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours at the Mall Galleries, where I was awarded the Turner Medal in 2015. My paintings are in many private collections throughout the UK; and in Japan, Germany, France, New Zealand, Australia and Finland.
